About Behavior Therapy Associates

Steven B. Gordon, Ph.D., ABPP is the Founder
and Director of Behavior Therapy Associates, P.A. He is a clinical psychologist and is licensed in New Jersey. Dr. Gordon
is also Board Certified in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a Diplomate
in Behavior Therapy from the American Board of Behavioral Psychology. Dr. Gordon is on the faculty at the Graduate School
of Applied and Professional Psychology, Rutgers University where he has taught courses on adult and child behavior therapy
for over 25 years and is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Medicine and Dentistry
of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Gordon received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from West
Virginia University, completed his pre-doctoral internship at the University of Washington Medical School and was a Post-Doctoral
Fellow in Behavior Modification at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Gordon has co-authored three books,
published numerous articles, presented papers at local and national conferences, and served on editorial boards of professional
journals. He has co-authored with Michael Asher, Ph.D., ABPP Meeting the ADD Challenge: A Practical Guide for Teachers and
The ADHD Forms Book: Identification, Measurement and Intervention (Research Press). Dr. Gordon’s professional
interests range from providing assessment and treatment for individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders,
AD/HD and other disruptive behavior disorders associated with childhood and adolescence. He has
co-founded and is the Executive Director of HI-STEP (formerly Stepping Stone) Summer Program, which is an intensive six-week
day program for children to improve their social skills and problem solving ability. In addition, Dr. Gordon has had
extensive experience providing clinical services not only for children diagnosed with phobias, stress,
selective mutism, obsessive compulsive disorders and depression, but also with adults
coping with anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties. Dr. Gordon
is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and the New
Jersey Psychological Association.

Michael C. Selbst, Ph.D. is Associate Director of Behavior Therapy Associates, P.A. He is a Licensed Psychologist
and a Certified School Psychologist in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He earned an undergraduate Honors Degree in Psychology
at the University of Delaware, having completed a thesis on Creativity, and resulted in publication in the Journal of Personality
and Social Psychology. Dr. Selbst was awarded a University Fellowship to Temple University, where he attained his Masters
in Education and Ph.D. in School Psychology. Dr. Selbst has co-founded and is the Executive Director of HI-STEP (formerly
Stepping Stone) Summer Program, which is an intensive six-week day program for children to improve their social skills
and problem solving ability, and the Director of the Weekend to Improve Social Effectiveness (W.I.S.E.). Both programs
focus on teaching social-emotional skills via small-group training, recreational activities, and cooperative problem-solving,
within school- and natural-environment settings. He has extensive experience working with pre-school aged children through
adults, including individuals who are gifted, have learning disabilities, social-emotional and
behavioral difficulties, and children with developmental delays, including those with Autism and Asperger’s
Syndrome. Dr. Selbst provides individual and family therapy, Behavioral Parent Training, and Social Skills
Training to address a variety of presenting issues, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, AD/HD, oppositional
behavior, learning disabilities, depression, conduct problems, social-skills deficits, and anger management. Dr. Selbst
consults to numerous public and private schools, assisting parents, teachers, and mental health professionals. He also
conducts Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans. He presents workshops
on all topics highlighted above, as well as Parenting Strategies, Depression, and Suicide Prevention. He
has trained numerous educators, parents, and mental health professionals. Workshop sites have included state-wide conferences,
parent advocacy groups, school districts, and internationally. Dr. Selbst has expertise in Psychoeducational and Psychological
Evaluations. Referrals to Dr. Selbst commonly originate from parents, school districts, employers, advocates, attorneys,
mental health professionals, and the result of due process hearings. Evaluations are completed in the office for children
and adults, at the child’s school, and/or the child’s home to determine strengths and needs, and to determine
diagnostic impressions and the appropriateness of a child’s Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.). Dr.
Selbst advocates for the child’s best interests, regardless of the referral source. He is also skilled in providing
independent and objective consultation and mediation services as part of an Alternative
Dispute Resolution (ADR) process. Dr. Selbst
is a member of the following professional organizations: American Psychological
Association; National Association of School Psychologists; Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies; New Jersey
Psychological Association; and the New Jersey Association of School Psychologists. He also serves as a Member of the
Human Rights Committee for the Douglass Adult Program, which is a component of Adult and Transitional Services of the Douglass
Developmental Disabilities Center at Rutgers University. Dr. Selbst has also served as a substitute lecturer for a graduate
course on cognitive-behavioral interventions.

Michael
J. Asher, Ph.D., ABPP, is a clinical psychologist and has been
at Behavior Therapy Associates, P.A. since 1988. Dr. Asher is Board Certified in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology by the
American Board of Professional Psychology. He is Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Department of Psychiatry
UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where he supervises Psychiatric Fellows and teaching course on Child Cognitive
Behavior Therapy as well he is a field supervisor for the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at
Rutgers University. Dr. Asher received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Illinois Institute
for Technology and completed his pre-doctoral internship at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Asher has significant
experience in conducting numerous workshops on a local, national and international level and has written extensively about
assessment and clinical interventions using behavior modification and cognitive self-instruction
approaches. Dr. Asher trains teachers and child study teams in the use and implementation of Functional Behavior
Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans. He consults to numerous hospitals, as well as, public
and private school systems throughout New Jersey, assisting parents, teachers, and mental health professionals in working
with children with disruptive behavior disorders. Dr. Asher has also has broad experience providing clinical
services not only for children diagnosed with phobias, stress, selective mutism,
obsessive compulsive disorders and depression but with adults coping with anxiety,
depression and relationship difficulties. Dr. Asher is the co-author, with Steven B. Gordon, PhD., ABPP, of Meeting

Debra
G. Salzman, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist in New Jersey (NJ Lic. #3160). Dr. Salzman has been at Behavior
Therapy Associates, P.A. since 1992. Dr. Salzman received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the State University of New
York at Albany. She completed her doctoral internship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania—Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric
Institute. Dr. Salzman has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents and adults. She has
a special interest in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents and adults with anxiety disorders,
social skills deficits, past and present childhood sexual abuse, disruptive behavior disorders,
depression, coping with trauma, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and training parents
on behavior management strategies to improve child behavior. Dr. Salzman has been or is currently a field supervisor for the
Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology and Yeshiva University. Dr. Salzman as conducted numerous workshops
on the topics of behavior therapy with children, adolescents and families.

Mark Cooperberg, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist
in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He earned his doctorate in clinical psychology with a specialization in children and adolescents
at Case Western Reserve University after completing his pre-doctoral internship at University of Medicine and Dentistry-Robert
Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Cooperberg has extensive experience conducting therapy and evaluations with children,
adolescents, adults and their families, including individuals with a wide range of presenting problems. He has worked
in numerous settings, including schools, specialized summer programs, community mental health centers, day treatment, residential
placement, inpatient hospitals, and specialty outpatient clinics. Dr. Cooperberg has expertise in various areas, including
children and adolescents with mood and behavioral disorders. Dr. Cooperberg has conducted numerous evaluations at B.T.A.
and specializes in providing comprehensive Psychoeducational and AD/HD evaluations. These evaluations
identify students’ strengths and needs and yield comprehensive recommendations to maximize the student’s opportunities
for success in and outside of the classroom. Dr. Cooperberg also provides individual and family therapy for individuals
of all ages. He conducts weekly social skills training groups for children and adolescents throughout the year.
Dr. Cooperberg also provides behavioral consultation to numerous school districts throughout the state, while conducting Functional
Behavior Assessments (FBA) and writing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
